100 years ago: “Judge George Brawner of La Plata County, who has not been down to this city for about a year, came in to spend a few days here. The judge is said to have recently disposed of his property in La Plata for a considerable sum.”
75 years ago: “The wife of a Durango man who was planning a trip to Denver advised him not to wear a newly purchased shirt in the capital city because someone might mistake him for an awning and roll him up.”
50 years ago: “A program of slides of the San Juan Basin area has been completed and will be shown daily on channel 6. The slide program will last 15 minutes. The special program for the benefit of the tourists is being sponsored by the Durango Motel Association through the cooperation of the Durango TV network.”
25 years ago: “La Plata County farmers don’t need the federal government to tell them the drought is a disaster. Some producers have began cutting their first hay crops as much as a month early this year and are reporting extremely low yield. The demand for irrigation water has area experts calling for conservation, although at present reservoir levels are adequate to last through the summer.”
