And the West is History

100 years ago: Items lost in Durango included a boot from Dr. Robbins that was left between Jarvis garage and Mercy hospital and a diamond and pearl set lavaliere and chain that was misplaced on Fourth Avenue between Seventh and 12th streets.

75 years ago: Coach Howard Baker led the Fort Lewis Aggies basketball team to win both games against La Junta Junior College. The second game ended 32 to 30 after Dick Crowthers “plunked in the winning basket” during the last seconds of the final quarter.

50 Years Ago: A truck driven by Francis Hollaway went over the San Juan Lookout on Wolf Creek Pass. Skid marks were visible on the stretch of road where the accident occurred.

25 years ago: There was a fire in a water heater closet at 401 East Eighth Ave. It never had a chance to do much damage before Durango firefighters extinguished the flames.
