100 years ago: In an advert for Foley Kidney Pills by S.G. Wall Durango Drug Co., 87 year-old H.H. Adams swore by Foley-brand Kidney Pills when it came to ridding himself of “backache, sore muscles, stiff joints, dark puffs under eyes.”
75 years ago: One of the pioneers of Durango, Mrs. Wilhelmina Wertin, passed away at “a Durango hospital” after suffering “an illness of several years which assumed a serious nature in recent months.” She moved to Durango from Berlin, Germany, in 1888 and married George Wertin, who was presumably remembered by “the old-timers of this vicinity.”
50 Years Ago: There were three car accidents over a period of 12 hours in Durango caused by careless driving and icy road conditions. The drivers responsible for causing the wrecks included Richard Dossey, Jack Park and Lonnie Martin.
25 years ago: The La Plata County Board of Commissioners announced they would introduce new county manager Bob Brooks to department heads at the next meeting. Elected officials expressed their confidence Brooks would be an excellent addition.
