100 years ago: Al Foutz of Fruitland “had a narrow escape from death” when he drank a cup of water that had been “dipped from a barrel containing blue vitriol mixture.”

75 years ago: It was announced that marker stripes, safety zones, stop signs and pavement signs would be completed during the week. City painting crews were scheduled to conduct work “in the wee small hours of the morning.”

25 years ago: Police officers had to break up a party of underage drinkers who were being too loud in a room at the Iron Horse Inn.
