And the West is History

100 years ago: “Dr. William Schumacher, the sheep inspector, returned from Pagosa Junction, where he has been inspecting flocks being driven from New Mexico into the state for the summer grazing.”

75 years ago: “Gay Easter bunnies, fluffy yellow chicks and a multitude of brightly colored eggs lent fun and novelty to the birthday party of Barbara Jean Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Allen, who celebrated her eighth birthday.”

50 years ago: This appeared in the section called Girl About Town: “‘The Silverton, the famous narrow gauge steam train from Durango to Silverton, Colo., will resume daily round trips on June 3,’ worldwide readers of The New York Times read Sunday.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 Fifth St., was showing “Major League” starring Tom Berenger and Charlie Sheen. The billing read: “When these three oddballs try to play hardball, the result is totally screwball. A comedy with bats and balls.”
