100 years ago: “W. H. Lockwood has a Cave Basin bee in his bonnet and while he has left to chase the bee Mrs. Lockwood is domiciled at the Strater Hotel at Durango.”
75 years ago: “One of the largest real estate sales of Durango property that has been made for some time was completed when the business property on the corner of Main and Eighth Street, lots 23, 24, 25 and 26 in block 51, known as the Crystal block, was sold to Della T. Griffith.”
50 years ago: Anchorage, Alaska – “The C. R. Hafling family is in good shape following the earthquake in Anchorage, Hafling’s brother, Owen Hafling of Durango has learned. The Haflings have a fireplace for cooking, snow for water, and plenty of food. Hafling, who owns Color Arts Printing Co. in Anchorage, is a former employee of the Durango newspaper, and of the Anchorage Daily Times.”
25 years ago: The Gaslight, 102 Fifth Street, was showing “Mississippi Burning” starring Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe. The billing read: “1964. When America was at war with itself.”
