75 years ago: A farmer killed a bear that was “robbing” his bee hives of honey. The bear was unusually large, estimated at nearly 400 pounds. The carcass was given to the wildlife department.
50 years ago: According to the Colorado Crop and Livestock Reporting Service, soil moisture needs for dry-land crops were intensified by above-normal temperatures throughout the state.
25 years ago: Three small fires started in the area, including a grass fire from an abandoned campfire, a fire along the railroad tracks north of Durango and another grass fire west of Durango near U.S. Highway 160.
