100 years ago: An advertisement for Durango Motor Co. read: “Before you invest your money in an automobile investigate the 1914 Chalmers ‘Thirty-six’ at $1,775 F.O.B. Detroit. You will not find any more real automobile value at anywhere near the Chalmer’s price.”
75 years ago: “When completed the new Highway 160 bridge over the Animas River will have a span some 175 feet long, with an inside clearance of 30 feet and vertical clearance of 16 feet. The new bridge will be of the through truss type with steel braces across the top and is designed to support a load of 20 tons and still leave a big factor of safety.”
50 years ago: “The Prairie Bible Institute of Three Hills, Alberta, Canada, will present a musical program a the Calvary Baptist Church. Prairie Bible Institute is the largest independent Christian school in Canada.”
25 years ago: “Indiana Jones won’t be coming to Mesa Verde after all. Plans to film part of the movie at the national park were canceled after Lucasfilms Ltd. bowed to concerns from Hopie Indians about filming in the ruins.”
