100 years ago: W.N. McTaggert of the Fort Lewis Mesa; Roy French and his mother of the lower Florida; Tobe Aperson of Salt Creek; and Q.A. Cross, J.J. Zink and Bill Chitwood of the Animas Valley were “a few of the ranch people” who visited Durango.
75 years ago: A B-25 Army bomber circled Silverton, Telluride and Ouray several times, causing “speculation as to its mission.”
50 years ago: The Charles Lincoln cabin on south Main Street in Rico was “seriously damaged” by fire. Firefighters contained the blaze before it destroyed the structure and received praise from the property owners. Authorities reportedly believed the fire was started by children playing in the building.
25 years ago: The Durango Police Department reported that two Texas vehicles with people sleeping in them were investigated at Schneider Park. Officers found that they had been scared away from their previous campsite by a bear.
