And the West is History

100 years ago: “Yesterday was a busy day in Durango stores. Although the roads are in bad condition, there were many buyers in the city. The sudden change in temperature has made a brisk demand for winter clothing and the businessmen are reaping the benefit.”

75 years ago: “Fall colors artistically carried out with brilliant leaves, shaggy chrysanthemums and glowing tapers that added distinction to an attractive bridge luncheon given by Mrs. J.A. Wallace when she entertained 12 guests.”

50 years ago: “Lenore Duffy of Bonnie Belle cosmetics will conduct a charm clinic for young adult women. She will give tips on good grooming, skin care and make-up. Teenagers and others may register at the Service Drug Center.”

100 years ago: “Mercy Medical Center is now the ‘sole community provider’ of area hospital services, allowing larger Medicare reimbursements beginning this month. The July closure of La Plata Community Hospital’s acute care unit made Mercy automatically eligible to apply for the designation.”
