50 years ago: Incumbents stressed their experience. Challengers stressed their qualifications and asked for a chance to gain experience in office. This was the dominant theme of the local candidates’ meeting sponsored by the League of Women Voters Wednesday night. Mrs. Mahlon White presided at the meeting, held in the Columbine Room, which was broadcast by KIUP.
25 years ago: Fort Lewis College’s oldest – and tallest – structure, the 125-foot water tower, is now just a memory. The tank and part of the tower, located at the center of the FLC campus, was taken down Friday and Saturday as part of a $4 million fire, electrical and water modernization project. Delayed three days due to wind and snow, the project should be completed midweek.
