100 years ago: “Arrangements were completed by the directors of the Colorado-New Mexico Fair Association to bring The Denver Post Band of 30 pieces and a manager to Durango for the fall fair.”
75 years ago: “Durango has a new plane zooming around over the city. Don Craig arrived from Denver flying the plane purchased there.”
50 years ago: “Everything is in readiness for the dedication ceremonies at the Arboles Recreation Area on Navajo Lake. Congressman Wayne N. Aspinall will be among the guest speakers for the occasion, which will include a big free barbecue and entertainment. A special train will run from Durango to Arboles for the ceremonies. Tickets for the special excursion are $3 for adults and $1.50 for children five to 12.”
25 years ago: “A recently-appointed court referee will ease the workload in La Plata County court. Durango attorney Bill Corwin was hired as the court referee to handle lower-level traffic infractions, small claims, probation revocation hearings and advisements. His job will take about 40 hours a month and should give La Plata County Court Judge Elizabeth Collard time to concentrate on more serious matters.”
