75 years ago: An advertisement for Graden’s read, “Just received new shipment of Shirley Temple and Cinderella children’s wash dresses. .98 cents to $1.98. A beautiful assortment of children’s new sheer summer wash dresses in all the new light colors.”
50 years ago: “Sheriff Walter Conrad and his deputies packed water tanks into the forest area two miles east of Bayfield to put out the largest timber fire yet reported in the county so far this year. The men worked for nearly 4½ hours extinguishing the blaze in the isolated area near the Bert Montgomery ranch. They reported the fire probably was started by a cigarette.”
25 years ago: “A study room in the Fort Lewis College library will be named for the late Irene Beers, a Fort Lewis College alumna and wife of Robert Beers, former president of the State Board of Agriculture. The room, which will seat 20 and be for study and conference use, will be furnished by the Irene Beers fund in the Fort Lewis College Foundation.”
