100 years ago: “Sanford Dodge, the noted actor who appeared in ‘The Right of Way,’ is a relative of our esteemed townsman, Frank Dodge. In fact, their branches of family tree are very close together.”
75 years ago: “Gaining admittance through the skylight, thieves broke into the Longstrom liquor store and stole approximately $75 in checks and currency. Mr. Longstrom reports that apparently no liquor was taken.”
50 years ago: “The grandson of Durangoans Mr. and Mrs. John Lyen, Radioman 2.C. Bert L. Swift of Alamosa, was one of the first Navy frogmen to reach astronaut Gordon Cooper when his space flight ended. Swift peered into the capsule window and saw Cooper lying relaxed and smiling on his foam-rubber contour couch. Swift is the son of Col. Vaughn Swift of Heidelburg, Germany, and the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Delph Haynie of Durango. ”
25 years ago: Both Ignacio and Bayfield high schools were preparing for their graduation ceremonies. Ignacio High School would graduate 48 seniors and Bayfield High School would graduate 44.
