100 years ago: The Herald realizing the benefit to be derived by the whole county from the advancement of its various individual sections has decided to publish from time to time views of La Plata Countys newest town, Ignacio. In order that people who do not realize the rapid growth of this section may be convinced that La Plata Countys fast forging on the front.
75 years ago: The D. & R.G.W. moved to abandon its station at Allison on the narrow gauge line between Alamosa and Durango. The petition for abandonment said expense of maintaining the station is not justified by the revenue produced. The station is located among the foothills 20 miles west of Pagosa Junction.
50 years ago: Muddy, turbulent runoff water from the high mountain snowpacks began reaching Durango on the Animas River this past weekend. The river measured at the Western Colorado Power Co. plant on 14th Street, was up nearly two feet over last Fridays reading.
25 years ago: The transfer of nine planning jobs from Durango to the Denver office of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation this summer wont slow the Animas-La Plata Project. The transfer, to be effective July 31, is part of the bureau-wide reorganization that is consolidating functions in Denver.
