And the West is History

100 years ago: “Stock cars were sent out at Mancos for shipment of the Jim Frink cattle; about 18 cars in all will be loaded for the eastern harvest. This will likely wind up the livestock shipments for the season.”

75 years ago: “A shelter for the convenience of skaters at the Hermosa Nurseries pond is being built by Leonard Zink.”

50 years ago: “Purgatory opens Saturday, Ray Duncan, president of Durango Ski Corp., has announced. The chair lift will be operating and runs will be packed.”

25 years ago: “A Fort Lewis College political science professor told about 150 anti-war demonstrators to expect to be called ‘un-American, unpatriotic weirdos’ in their efforts to protest the military buildup of U.S. forces in the Persian Gulf. ... The demonstration, the first of its kind in Durango since the military buildup, was held at Buckley Park.”
