And the West is History

100 years ago: An advertisement read, “Four year old Port, Sherry, Angelica and Muscatel just as pure as if you had preserved the grapes yourself. At Kellenberger’s.”

75 years ago: “Durango’s Christmas lighting premiere went off with a bang, invoking a holiday spirit which was shared by the multitude of people from all over the basin who thronged the city’s main streets.”

50 years ago: “Gene Money, music director of Durango High School, has received a colored photograph of the Durango band performing in the Grand Floral Parade at the Portland Rose Festival in June of this year. Lea Phillips, director at large of the Portland Rose Festival will be in Durango after the first of the year to show a film of the whole parade to interested persons.”

25 years ago: “Downtown business owners bravely swallowed their medicine as they were told Main Avenue will shut down for repaving six weeks preceding next summer’s tourist season.”
