100 years ago: “The city’s force of men and teams were engaged in tearing up and removing the rotten boardwalk surrounding the Kruschke property at the corner of Third Avenue and Sixth Street. Well, there is one satisfaction in knowing that a pedestrian can take the middle of the street, but women with a go-cart can hire a taxi.”
75 years ago: “Voters in Durango apparently are turning out en masse to take part in the greatest election in many years. Mid-day counting at the poles indicates that by 7 p.m., all Durango voting records will have been eclipsed.”
25 years ago: “Voter registration for the general election totaled 16,884 as of Oct. 30, leading to speculation from La Plata County Clerk and Recorder Leta Sauer that voter turnout could be slightly higher than 65 percent.”
