100 years ago: “The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company’s daily road report stated that all local roads are muddy and in bad condition as a result of the recent rains. The mud is drying up rapidly, however.”
75 years ago: “While the second world war rages in Europe, the United States will on Nov. 11, celebrate Armistice Day – from the first world war.”
50 years ago: “Durango had its first moisture during the night Monday since rain, snow, sleet and hail ushered in hunting season Oct. 16. This morning’s measurement was .02 inch of precipitation to bring the year’s moisture to 18.74 inches. This is still far ahead of 1964, when by Nov. 9 the measurement was 13.19 inches.”
25 years ago: “The La Plata County Commissioners are opposing a move by the Save Our Fairgrounds Organization to preserve the La Plata County Fairgrounds as a historic site. SOFA has made a formal application to the Colorado Historical Society to include the fairgrounds on the National Register of Historic Places. The commissioners passed a resolution opposing the addition of the fairgrounds to the national register, and said they will send their legal adviser to meet with the Colorado Historical Society’s review board.”
