100 years ago: “The City Council was regaled by a spread thrown by Fire Chief Dietrich, City Manger Hood and City Clerk Myers. The feast consisted of oyster stew, celery, spring onions, pickles and olives, sausage, rye bread, cheese and coffee. There was also said to have been fried trout, fresh from the city reservoir and plenty of reservoir water to drink.”

75 years ago: “Having fears that the golfers’ season is nearing its conclusion, a group of bitter-enders made the most of the weather on the Hillcrest Course.”

50 years ago: “Mickey Hogan, president of the Durango Ski Club, and his family were first in line to buy a season ticket for the Purgatory ski area. ... Tickets are $60 for the first member of the family, $50 for the second member, $35 for the third member and $20 for the fourth member. The family season ticket maximum is $165.”

25 years ago: “The largest mobilization of the Colorado National Guard in support of Operation Desert Shield continues in Durango for about 120 basic medical specialists with the 928th Medical Company. The men and women of the ambulance unit who reported to the Durango Armory since Thursday’s activation order have practiced and trained countless hours for what is happening to them now.”
