And the West is History

100 years ago: “Superintendent W.G. West is calling for several hundred head of beef cattle for the Ignacio Agency for the school year, and those interested would do well to get in touch with Supt. West at once.”

75 years ago: “Seventy members and friends of the San Juan Ski Club were sliding and skittering at the Haviland Lake ski course. The tow back was not operating, but it will be next Sunday, members of the club confidently assert.”

50 years ago: “There’s elation in Durango Ski Corp. today as Ray Duncan, president, and Chet Anderson, manager of the Purgatory ski area, measure between 3 and 4 feet of new snow at Purgatory. Workers are packing the ski runs today.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 5th St., was showing “Predator 2.” The billing read, “Silent. Invisible. He’s in town with a few days to kill.”
