100 years ago: “Mr. and Mrs. F.R. Graham returned from an extended tour through the East and Canada. Their trip covered a period of about four months, and they took in everything from a Synagogue to a Cathedral, from opera to movies from Durango to Halifax, via Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Graham declares they enjoyed every moment of the trip.”
75 years ago: An advertisement for Durango Music Store read: “Musical instruction Prof. E.T. Sly, instrumental instructor and composer now located at studio in connection with Durango Music Store. Enrolling private and class students in instruction on all instruments. Prof. Sly has 20 years experience organizing bands and orchestras. Teaches and plays all instruments and in order to stimulate interest in stringed instruments, one month’s instruction free with each violin purchased this month at the Durango Music Store.”
50 years ago: “It has rained and rained – enough to exceed the 67 year average through August. The 67 year average to the end of August is 12.42 inches of moisture. Durango has registered 12.47 inches of rain by today with five more days of August still to go.”
25 years ago: “Family members remained worried about the Oregon horseman, critically injured in a fall whose survival depended on a risky rescue mission. He was lifted by helicopter from remote spot along the Los Pinos River about 11 hours after his horse had fallen down an embankment, rolling over the man and crushing five of his ribs.”
