100 years ago: “Ore shipments from the Silverton camp have shown considerable increase during the past 10 days. Ten cars from the mines of that vicinity form a part of last night’s Silverton freight, Durango bound.”
75 years ago: “If bowling at the Durango bowling alley isn’t growing brighter day by day, it isn’t the fault of the management nor of Sandy Barnes who is painting the front of the building. The boarders of the alleys themselves, or if the term ‘boarders’ is inaccurate, ‘frontiers’ might be tried – anyway that portion of the system has been painted in gaudy colors.”
50 years ago: “For the first time in its history as one of the Southwest’s most popular summer attractions, the Silverton train has carried more than 70,000 passengers in one season.”
25 years ago: “A Taste of La Plata County was held outside the Red Lion Inn. Some 600 hungry residents were served numerous dishes prepared only with ingredients produced in La Plata County.”
