And the West is History

100 years ago: “The Joe Freed automobile which left the road at Wilson Gulch last week falling to the bottom of a deep arroyo, is now at the Jarvis garage. The machine had the fenders bent and the front axel broken.”

75 years ago: “Prince Yose – ‘the man with the radio mind’ – is now appearing on the floor show at Trimble Springs. With any number of tricks of magic up his sleeve, Prince Yose performs such simple feats as making one whole piece of rope out of three sections. In addition, he answers personal questions collected from his audience, gives palm readings and lays out the future on request.”

50 years ago: “The Herald expects to publish its first complete offset paper. Herald Publisher Arthur Ballantine said that the move of the newspaper to its new plant is now fully underway.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 Fifth St., was showing “Goodfellas” starring Robert De Niro, Jay Liotta and Joe Pesci. The billing read, “Three decades of life in the mafia.”
