100 years ago: “The son of D.M. Logan, a rancher of the Animas Valley, had a streak of hard luck when he came into town on a business and buying trip and lost a $5 bill out of a hole in his pocket. He had the bill loose and uncrumpled, like the financiers carry it, and it blew off somewhere on the wild western winds and was seen no more.”
75 years ago: “La Plata County voting in the Colorado primary was generally heavier than was the county’s primary vote in 1938, although the 1940 vote was still light because of the lack of contests in the county tickets.”
50 years ago: “All exhibits at La Plata County Fair are open for public inspection. This afternoon’s events traditionally attract a large and enthusiastic crowd to watch the junior rodeo, the 4-H catch-it contest and 4-H performance.”
25 years ago: “The mountain bike itself has evolved with the sport of mountain bike racing. So it’s not unusual that a mountain-bike manufacturing company would hold the first official media conference of the World Mountain Bike Championships. Specialized Bicycles, a silver sponsor for the championships, welcomed to Durango media from around the world, introducing new products and the five members of Team Specialized.”
