Large crowds attended the sale again last night, and some rare bargains were picked off by the crowd of eager shoppers. Auctioneer Bowman does not tarry long in waiting for bids, and his methods ensure that the large stock will be considerably reduced.”
75 years ago: “Durango Reading Club convened, where an exceptionally interesting program on ‘France, Belgium and Holland’ was given by Mrs. Harold Harris. Historical backgrounds of the three countries were traced in an absorbing narration which developed them, separately, up to the present day, showing the part each has played and is playing in today’s drama.”
50 years ago: “Snow with nearly an inch of water in it (.89 inch) fell during the night and weighed so heavily on bushes and trees many were bent to the ground. Leafy limbs of some trees were broken off by the weight of the wet snow. But it was great fun for kids who scooped up handfuls, packed it and threw it at each other.”
25 years ago: An advertisement for Building Specialties Store, 270 E. 8th Ave., read, “Receive a ‘free’ Superdeck ball cap every time you purchase five gallons of Superdeck Exterior Transparent Finish. Superdeck is a coating for fine exterior wood that not only stand ups to the abuse of sun, weather and foot traffic, but makes and keeps exterior wood looking new.”
