100 years ago: “The number of visitors to the Mesa Verde Park is rapidly approaching the 1,000 mark ... About 990 persons have so far visited the park this year, and it is believed that the 1,000 mark will easily be reached before the season ends.”
75 years ago: An advertisement read, “Fashionette features this week half-size dresses. They fit snug – they are youthful! Sizes 16½ to 50½. In all of Fall’s latest designs! If it’s smart – if it’s new – if it’s different – you’ll find it at the Fashionette Shoppe, 840 Main Ave.”
50 years ago: “Hunters are filling the woods and the motels; they’re getting lost, tramping miles through the woods, being dropped into the high country by helicopter, sitting at bars, cooking over campfires, sleeping in tents, having a vacation and a great time – In fact, hunters seem to be doing practically everything but finding game during the hunting season.”
25 years ago: “A special Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge work train was up and running early three mornings this week, taking some unusual cargo up the Animas River canyon to Tall Timber and north of Rockwood. The freight included a Toyota Nexus passenger car worth $37,000, a caterer’s truck and a crew for the filming of a television commercial.” The commercial was to feature the Nexus driving on the railroad track.
