And the West is History: Durango view – ca. 1906

The dirt road in the left corner of this early 20th century photo is now West Park Avenue. A cable suspension footbridge, known as Swinging Bridge, has replaced the bridge over the Animas River in the center of the photo. The Durango Light and Power Co. generating plant (now the Powerhouse Science Center) is visible to the right of the bridge. A three-story apartment building replaced the homes shown in the foreground.
