And the West is History: Father and Son Banquet at DHS – 1919
Monday, Dec 9, 2024 5:00 AM
Pictured is the Father and Son Banquet, hosted on Valentine’s Day in the Durango High School gymnasium. At the time, the facility was only 3 years old and still in pristine condition. The gymnasium exists today, possibly destined to be part of the new city hall. A balcony above the gym floor encircled the basketball court below, serving as an indoor track for students. The banquet intended to “bring the father and his son into closer fellowship.” More than 300 guests attended, with food provided by the Baptist Women’s group for 75 cents per plate. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 07.34.24 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
