And the West is History: Rodeo at Trimble Hot Springs – Ca. 1947

After World War II, Curt Owens purchased the Trimble Hot Springs Resort north of Durango. He added “and Dude Ranch” to the name, built stables and a rodeo arena and began holding rodeos on weekends. Owens was a horse breeder and quarter horse racing fan who also hosted hunting camps using the resort as his base. He sold the business in 1949. Here, swimmers view the rodeo across the highway in front of the hot springs pool in the mid 1940s. – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum (Courtesy of La Plata County Historical Society)
