Animas High School students were released from class Thursday morning because of water main issue connected to construction on Goeglein Gulch Road.
In a Facebook post, the school announced that students had been released at 11:15 a.m. and the school would fully close by 12:15 p.m. because it did not have running water. Students who were not picked up by 12:15 p.m. were transported to the Durango Recreation Center where there are restrooms and access to water.
Dean of enrollment and Community Outreach Libby Cowles said the water main issue impacted both Animas High School and Fort Lewis College. However, FLC has a secondary water system.
The cause of the issue has yet to be determined.
Classes will be canceled on Friday, Cowles said in an email on Thursday afternoon.
“We anticipate being back up and running on Monday,” she said.
