Interested in ocean studies, robots or exploration?

Then head to the Powerhouse Science Center on Saturday for a live talk with Animas High School student Emily Vierling, who is aboard the Exploration Vehicle Nautilus as part of her honors fellowship with the Ocean Exploration Trust.

Working off the coast of California, Emily, 17, and her group explored a natural whale fall – large cetacean carcasses on the sea floor – Wednesday and dived near an old volcanic area Thursday, so she’s sure to have some adventures to talk about.

Community engagement is part of Emily’s fellowship, and she will make presentations after she returns to Durango for her senior year at Animas High, but this is an opportunity to hear about the experience while it’s happening.

Emily is the daughter of Jeff and Jenny Vierling.
