Animas Museum to open exhibit, program

A classroom exhibit, “Schools: Heart of the Community,” will open and a program, “Four Decades of Preserving History,” will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Animas Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.

The exhibit will explore the role of schools in the community and the program, led by Robert McDaniel, former director of the museum, will provide an insider’s look at the 40-year exterior restoration of the historic Animas City School building. The program will focus on the roof reconstruction completed in 2007 and the story of the school bell, which is a representation of the project that won the 2008 Governor’s Award for historic preservation.
