Balloons take off Friday morning as the Animas Valley Balloon Rally begins north of Durango near the intersection of Hermosa Meadows Road and U.S. Highway 550. Mass ascensions will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. A “drive-by” balloon glow will be held starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at locations in the Animas Valley, including the Cottonwoods subdivision.
