Animas Valley Grange to host apple pressing

The Animas Valley Grange is again offering use of its apple press to individuals, families and small groups from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at the grange, 7271 County Road 203.

There will be yard games set up in the north yard for people to pass the time while waiting for their turn at the press. Participants are asked to bring their own apples. The grange will also accept donations of apples for those who do not have their own. Bring your own containers for your cider. There will be experts on hand to guide use of the apple press.

The grange usually rents the press for $50 a day throughout harvest season, but are offering the press free for use Sept. 25. The grange asks participants to follow San Juan Basin Public Health advice by maintaining social distance between groups, washing hands frequently and wearing a mask if inside the Grange Hall. If you have good quality apples to donate for the pressing, drop them off at the grange no later than noon Sept. 25.

For more information or if you have apples or pears the grange can harvest, contact Deb Paulson at 403-3862.
