Ann Butler was the glue that held together residents with varied interests in the Durango community. She was truly a “local.” She treasured those with whom she had a history. She welcomed those who were new to the community. She encouraged everyone to get involved and volunteer for nonprofits, in addition to attending any and all events taking place in town.
If you knew Ann, you were one degree of separation from many people in Durango. She was a fun-loving, gracious participant in a multitude of events and activities. Her social calendar was full for years. She spent her time with one and all. Ann’s position at The Durango Herald, reporting on social events, fundraisers, school activities, etc., made her the unofficial cheerleader for Durango.
Ann’s column introduced us to others and organizations. She wrote in a way that we could visualize what the events she attended were like. Her column was a topic of conversation.
Personally, Ann was a good friend.
She was considerate, caring and generous with her time. She struggled with health issues during the last years of her life, but she was a warrior dealing with whatever life brought her way.
She had a thirst for knowledge and was motivated to share such knowledge. I did not ever participate in the trivia nights, but I do know she found the evenings fun and challenging.
The memories of our friend Ann are cherished.
