An(other) open letter to Jeff Hurd

Jeff, I just received your reply to my previous correspondence and I was not pleased with its tenor. So, I wrote this and had it bounce back.

Thank you for your “thank you” email. I am concerned that when you focus on tax cuts for lower income people, that you are trying to direct attention away from the several trillion dollar increase in the national debt to provide serious tax cuts for the ultra wealthy and major corporations.

Unfortunately, you are doing a tremendous disservice to the lower income taxpayers with this regressive taxing structure, the forced and not-so-clever health insurance portion that will leave millions without health care, and the cuts to SNAP food assistance benefits.

This does not speak to a sincere desire to help the people. I am sure you personally did not write the “Big Bill” but your acquiescent support for its passage makes you culpable for the damage you will do to your own constituents.

Please avoid “smoke and mirrors” in your future responses. Accept what this big bill really does – with all its hidden, secret compartments that will not be fully visible until it’s signed into law.

In a closely divided House, and you can be the difference with your vote for the people. We will be watching you.
