Here’s my take on the five city councilor candidates’ spiritual animals (as noted by the Durango Telegraph last week):
Tom Eskew is the owl, wise, able to see through the darkness.
Dave McHenry is the lone wolf, cunning, elusive, not afraid.
Melissa Youssef is the zebra, balanced and peaceful; she avoids confrontation with predators.
Chris Bettin is the Skyhawk, a clever choice to get the Fort Lewis College vote.
Dean Brookie is the white buffalo, unique, who stands out from all the rest.
