Another winter storm is on its way and is expected to drop 8 to 14 inches of snow in elevations above 8,000 feet in the San Juan Mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
Andrew Lyons, a meteorologist for the NWS in Grand Junction, said the storm is expected to arrive in Southwest Colorado on Sunday night and continue to bring precipitation until Tuesday morning.
On Sunday, a winter storm watch was issued from 12 p.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Locations include Silverton, Rico, Telluride and Taylor Park.
Snow is expected to become widespread Monday afternoon and continue through Tuesday, the NWS said.
In Durango, precipitation is predicted to remain as rain, with daytime temperatures Monday around 50 degrees. A half-inch of snow may accumulate in town Monday night into Tuesday, Lyons said.
“We’ve been in this active storm track,” Lyons said. “This is the third or fourth storm like this recently.”
On Wednesday, clear skies and warm temperatures are expected to return to the area and last until Saturday, when another storm could bring precipitation.
