Appaloosa Trading Co. reopened in December in the Twin Crossing’s building on U.S. Highway 550, two miles from the state line.
The shop on County Road 203 near Hermosa Creek closed in May and much of the merchandise was sold, said employee Emily “Anita” Cruse.
Michael Gibson had been running Appaloosa Trading Co. for 35 years, and at the time, he didn’t plan to reopen.
But in October, Gibson started moving the remaining inventory to the Twin Crossings building, which is smaller than the one on County Road 203. The adobe exterior, however, fit well with the Western feel of the store, Cruse said.
The building had been vacant since 2009, and it took some work to get it ready to open, she said.
“This business is pretty much his life. He is super passionate about it,” she said.
The new location has a similar feel to the former store and sells Western clothing, jewelry and furniture, she said.
Cruse is the only employee and she is running the store while Gibson is traveling in Australia. He was not available to comment.
