DENVER – Colorado’s ski season got off to an early start with the opening of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area on Friday.
Skiers and snowboarders lined up early to be the first to take the lift to its only open trail, an intermediate run on High Noon trail.
Located along the Continental Divide, both A Basin and Loveland Ski Area compete to be the first to open for the season. Last year, A-Basin opened Oct. 21 but snowfall earlier this month helped boost snowmaking efforts.
The resort plans to stay open until early June.
Alan Henceroth, Arapahoe Basin’s chief operation officer says recent weather has been kind to the Basin. He says it’s exciting to kick off the ski season earlier than usual.
Opening day is an annual party at A-Basin, featuring neon outfits and Halloween costumes.
