Archaeological society to host talk

San Juan Basin Archaeological Society invites the public to an in-person meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Lyceum in Center for Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Dr. Kelley Hays-Gilpin will present: “Ann Axtell Morris and the amazing story of early 20th century women archaeologists in the Southwest.” The presentation will also be available on Zoom. See SJBAS.ORG for information.

Axtell Morris and her husband, Earl Morris, conducted archaeological fieldwork together in both the U.S. and Mexico. Along with other archaeologists, she traveled throughout the Southwest United States and Mexico with support from the Carnegie Institution to conduct fieldwork in the 1920s and 1930s.
