Durango is no stranger to ending up on “best of” lists.
List compilers rarely are short on accolades for our charming mountain town that serves as a tourist destination to thousands each year.
Usually, these lists are the “Top 10” of something or other – best place to raise a family, best river town, etc. But the pressure is on this time as Durango is in competition to win Outside magazine’s Best Town in America.
Outside picked 64 towns and created a bracket to pit one town against another. There will be six rounds of voting, each one lasting only five days.
Users can vote once per round for each match-up. The winners will advance until there are only two towns remaining.
Then, Outside Online will host a seven-day showdown to determine Outside’s Best Town 2014.
The first round of voting is underway. Durango is up against Mammoth Lakes, California.
Voting for this round ends Monday. The winner advances to the next round, which will be held Tuesday through May 24.
