Area Baha'is celebrating birthdays of faith's founders

The public is invited to share an important Baha'i Holy Days event with the Baha'is of the Four Corners of Colorado. Local Baha'is will celebrate the twin birthdays of the two founders of the Baha'i Faith at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov.2, at the Ignacio Community Library.

The library is located at 470 Goddard Ave in Ignacio. The celebration will include a special memorial program and music.

An international dinner will be served following the celebration.

The Holy Day event commemorates the birthdays of the Bab and Baha'u'llah and is the most important holy day of the Baha'i Faith, equivalent to Christmas for Baha'i believers.

The Bab, whose name means "the Gate" was the herald for Baha'u'llah, who founded the Baha'i Faith. The relationship between the Bab and Baha'u'llah, is similar to the relationship between John the Baptist and Jesus Christ.

The Bab claimed to be the forerunner of the One who would fulfill the prophecies of all the world's religions. The Bab made these claims on May 23, 1844 in Iran, then Persia.

Baha'u'llah then declared his mission in 1863, in Baghdad Iraq. Baha'u'llah repeated the Bab's claim that he was the One promised by all the world's major religions who would inaugurate world peace and usher in the golden age of humanity.
