Area nonprofits receive $20,000 in impact grants

Week of the Young Child events, speaker series coming up

Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado recently announced that it supplied $20,000 in impact grant funding for area nonprofits to support arts, youths, victims of domestic violence and early-childhood education programs.

Impact grants provide unsolicited funding to support needs in the community that have been overlooked by other philanthropic sources or organizations and initiatives that require extra help to become sustainable.

Recipients of the Community Foundation Impact Grant include:

La Plata Family Centers Coalition – received $5,000 to fund costs for early-childhood education programs, which allow parents to strengthen skills, connect with other parents to generate mutual support and provide early intervention and development initiatives to help children succeed in the future.La Plata Youth Services – received $5,000 for expansion of its restorative practices program to elementary schools, designed to reduce suspensions and expulsions and increase positive school climates.Alternative Horizons – received $4,000 to support victims of domestic violence program costs, which include crisis hot-line, advocacy, counseling and multi-cultural outreach services.Pagosa Springs Arts Council – received $3,000 to launch the collaborative Arts for All program, which brings arts education and creative outlets to at-risk children and senior citizens.Pagosa Springs Girls Choir – received $3,000 for tuition support and program costs.For more information, call 375-5807 or visit www.swcommunityfoundation.org.
