Armed robbery suspect caught in Missouri

Stephen Goupil, 33, is one of two suspected in Dec. 19 incident

A Durango man suspected of robbing and assaulting a person at gunpoint was arrested in Missouri after spending nearly three weeks on the run, according to police.

The Durango Police Department posted to social media Monday morning 33-year-old Stephen Goupil, who was considered armed and dangerous, was found and caught two states away, nearly 1,000 miles from Durango.

“Durango PD thanks the community for their interest and all information,” Durango police wrote.

According to a report in ABC17 News, Goupil was arrested by Columbia Police after a report of a suspicious vehicle on Sunday morning.

The report says the vehicle had been reported stolen from La Plata County. Columbia Police contacted Durango Police and found the stolen car was associated with Goupil, as well as another woman, identified as Erin Bradley, 27, of Ignacio.

Columbia Police then located Goupil nearby and arrested him. Bradley was found at a home in the area and was arrested on suspicion of tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, ABC17 News reported.

Goupil was one of two suspects in the Dec. 19 incident. The other, Joshua Gallegos, 23, was taken into custody in Grand Junction on a La Plata County arrest warrant, Durango police said Friday.

Authorities say Gallegos and Goupil met an acquaintance near Taco Bell on north Main Avenue, and the group then went to the End-O-Day Motel at 350 East Eighth Ave.

There, Gallegos and Goupil are suspected of robbing and assaulting the victim at gunpoint, and stealing cash and a wallet. The victim escaped the robbers, contacted police and was ultimately taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment.
