Groove Factory Four plays concert in park

Groove Factory Four, a Durango band that melds jazz, funk and rock, will play the free Concert in the Park series Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Buckley Park.

The band is comprised of Chad MacCluskey on bass, Jack Maynes on keys, Brad Tarpley on drums and Bob Hemenger on saxophone.

The concert is free, and patrons are invited to bring chairs and blankets and even picnics to spread out in the park. Macho’s Fast Mexican Food will be serving food from its cart.

Free lecture looks at Mabel Dodge Luhan

Center of Southwest Studies’ free summer lecture series continues Wednesday with a look at the life of Mabel Dodge Luhan.

Freelance journalist Judith Reynolds will present “Mabel Dodge Luhan: Utopian Dreams and Taos Realities” at 1:30 p.m. in the center’s Lyceum, 1000 Rim Drive.

The presentation is a follow-up to Reynolds’ presentation last summer on Georgia O’Keeffe, emphasizing myth and reality.

The free series is part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the CSWS.

Creative solutions for zombie apocalypse

The Durango Arts Center’s Applause! performing arts camp will present “10 ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” on Friday and Saturday a 1 p.m. in the DAC Theater.

It’s the end of the world and hordes of zombies are coming for you. What do you do? Try kung fu? Reason with them? Or just run as fast as you can? The public is invited to find out during the performances of the action-packed adventure by Don Zolidis.

Tickets are $6 and $4 for kids 10 and under. They are available at DAC, 802 East Second Ave., online at www.durangoarts.tix.com or by calling 259-2606.

Ouray association seeks entries for August show

The Ouray County Arts Association is seeking entries for the 54th Annual Artists’ Alpine Holiday, a national juried exhibit taking place Aug. 1-9 in Ouray.

OCAA is accepting watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, drawing, pastel, sculpture, photography and digital art. Entry fees are $30 for nonmembers, $25 for members and $1 for each student entry (with a limit of two).
