Meet new DAC director at Monday event

The local artistic community is invited to meet Cristie Scott, the new executive director of the Durango Arts Center, at a meet and greet from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Studio &, 1027 Main Ave.

Scott, who took the helm at the nonprofit arts organization in August, will be on hand to talk about new things happening at the center and the direction of it.

Scott grew up in Durango before leaving to study studio art and arts administration with a focus on nonprofit management. She is the current chairwoman of Durango Public Art Commission and is a former member and president of DAC’s board.

Arts center seeks ongoing volunteer

The Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Ave., is seeking a volunteer to distribute posters and marketing materials on a regular basis. A commitment of two hours, from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays, is required.

The position would help promote and support the arts in Durango and, specifically, DAC’s programs.

A Theatre Group to offer fall writers workshop

A Theatre Group in Silverton is bringing Peter Gil-Sheridan, a playwright who teaches in New York City, to lead a workshop in playwrighting over two consecutive Saturdays this fall at the Blue Raven Gallery, 1301 Greene St., Silverton.

Gil-Sheridan will guide participants in a series of writing exercises that will culminate in a festival of original 10-minute plays. Classes will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, with the festival readings taking place at 6 p.m. Oct. 6, also at the gallery.

The workshops will cost $50 for out-of-town students and $40 for locals and/or members of A Theatre Group.

Dancing Spirit seeks artists for Oct. exhibit

Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio is seeking submissions for its upcoming exhibit, “Through The Looking Glass.”

The call for entries is open to all local artists and any medium that relates to the theme. The exhibit will open Oct. 3 and will run through the month. The winning entry prize is $100.
