Durango Nature Studies online auction open
The Durango Nature Studies’ annual online auction, which kicked off late last week, will be open until Sept. 25.
The auction, a fundraiser for DNS, features a wide array of goodies, from concert tickets to yoga classes and massages to restaurant gift certificates.

NY Film Critic Series to feature ‘Hector’
The New York Film Critic Series continues at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Drive, with a screening of “Hector and the Search for Happiness.”
The British comedy stars Simon Pegg as a quirky psychiatrist who sets out on a global quest for the secret to a happy life.
The film will be accompanied by behind-the-scenes programming and the broadcast of a Q&A with Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers. This screening will be free to the first 120 people who show up. Visit www.animascitytheatre.com for more information.
Documentary ‘Switch’ to screen this week
The Four Corners Office for Resource Efficiency will be hosting two screenings of “Switch Energy Project,” a documentary about energy use and efficiency, this week in Durango.
The first screening will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Smiley Building Theater, 1309 East Third Ave. That will be followed with another screening at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Noble 130 at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive. Visit www.fourcore.org for more information.
FLC to hold writing workshop this fall
Fort Lewis College Continuing Education will offer a “Make Good Writing Great” workshop from 6-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday nights from Sept. 23 to Nov. 11. Enrollment is limited to eight students, and the deadline to sign up is today.
Instructor Lynn Kuntz is an award-winning writer whose credits include magazine and newspaper articles, books and films.

Lewis author holding Kickstarter campaign
Kevn Lambson, an illustrator and commercial artist from Lewis, has launched a crowd-funding campaign with his brother to raise money for a book project.
Lambson and his brother, Afton Lamson, are preparing a collection of illustration and poetry in the style of Shel Silverstein.
They are using a campaign on Kickstarter.com to fund the completion of the book, which they are calling Where the Sidewalk Bends.
