DAC to hold auditions for 10-Minute Play Fest

The Durango Arts Center will hold auditions for its popular 10-Minute Play Festival from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Arts Center Theater, 802 East Second Ave.

No experience is necessary; actors can just show up. Rehearsals will take place a few hours per week starting Aug. 18. The performances will take place Sept. 19-21.

Choral Society offers ‘Try It’ week for youth

The Durango Choral Society is launching a community choir for singers ages 12 to 16. The new Durango Youth Chorus will rehearse Mondays from 4:45 to 6 p.m. beginning Sept. 8 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

The choir is designed for intermediate to advanced singers who are interested in improving their techniques and working with other young singers.

Children and teenagers who may be interested for the new choir or for the Durango Children’s Chorale (ages 7-11) are invited to participate in “Try It” choirs next week, Monday through Thursday. The younger group will meet from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. and the older group will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. each day.

Orphan Train pulls into Aztec, N.M., on Saturday

Riders on The Orphan Train, a traveling show that recreates the lives of orphans who were sent West to be placed with families to live and work from 1854-1929, will pull into Aztec, New Mexico, this weekend.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Aztec Museum and Pioneer Village, 125 N. Main Ave. It will feature a dinner catered by Sparerib BBQ followed by a night of dramatic readings, multi-media presentations and songs on orphan train history.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $25 the day of the event, and are available at the museum or by calling (505) 334-9829.

Pagosa theater troupe adds Sunday matinee

Thingamajig Theatre Company in Pagosa Springs has added a one-day-only matinee of its musical “Les Miserable,” on Sunday, extending the show’s run one day.

The matinee will take place at 2 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts, 2313 Eagle Drive, Pagosa Springs.

The show was originally scheduled to wrap up with a Saturday night performance. That show is sold out.

Tickets for the matinee are $35 and are available at www.pagosaacenter.org.

Mancos exhibit issues call for art entries

The Mancos Town Gallery is seeking artists to participate in its upcoming open exhibit, “Art Takes Flight.”

All media will be accepted Aug. 29-30; the show will be hung Aug. 31.

The show will open Sept. 1 with a reception for the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 5.
